Need

People who can actually use an education can educate themselves. Those who don’t need an education have to pay for it.

I was an early adopter of the above philosophy. I became an aerospace engineer without benefit of degree.

Inspired by a discussion of the Higher Education Bubble at The Volokh Conspiracy. H/T Instapundit.

My grandfather was a self-made man. With only a high school diploma, he became an engineer and traveled the world doing secret work for the government. When he pared down his book collection, there were books of every sort. I took his math books-- the man had taught himself calculus. But he had books representing a wide assortment of knowledge-- cultural, historical, technical. And he was forever reading a book. I remember most distinctly a biography of Truman, but he read pretty much any substantial thing he got his hands on.

He passed away Christmas day 2005. May he rest in peace.

Public schools are nothing but ways to incarcerate the youth of this country mainly so that they won't get into trouble, but also to indoctrinate certain state values. I didn't really start to learn politics until I started listening to AM radio to get a balance and then researching things on my own. Oh my, the propaganda is amazing. Schools should teach how to think, not what to think.
