Lowering The Cost Of Health Care

The Obama Administration has a plan to lower the cost of health care by making it cost more.

As if to illustrate the disagreement among Democrats, the House's senior lawmaker — Rep. John Dingell, D-Mich. — said a Senate-approved tax on expensive insurance plans "seems kind of dumb to me." Labor leaders and House Democrats have said the plan would hit union members and many middle-class families.

But Obama favors it as a way of reining in the skyrocketing cost of health care, and the Senate included the proposal in its bill.
It is lucky the president is so smart. Because as George Orwell said, "Some things are so stupid, only an intellectual could believe them." I might amend that and say socialist. But the overlap is so great that the two categories are nearly identical. And how would Orwell have known? He was an intellectual AND a socialist.

He wrote a couple of "fiction" books about it:

1984

and

Animal Farm

Yes, quantum mechanics and special relativity were greeted in exactly that way...

Good thing you're not an intellectual, Msemen.

Please, 99%, don't even try to equate hard science with the liberal idiocies these leftists dream up. They have never tried any of their ideas in the real world because no money making enterprise want them within ten miles of them.

Only the federal government is stupid enough to let these pseudointellectuals try out their "theories."

Now buzz off and go ply your Plouffian nudgery on your fellow progressives.

Orwell was a great man. Have you read "Homage to Catalonia," Simon? Excellent account of his participation in the Spanish Civil War.

Silverfiddle,

I'll add it to my reading list.

I have read 1984 and Animal Farm.

Ironically (or not) physicists are in the main believers in the most absurd economic theories. Engineers are tend more towards the conservative/libertarian end of the spectrum.

My guess is that this is due to physicist being on the dole (mostly) and engineers have to actually make things work - every time.

It changes your perspective. It inherently limits the available choices.

A physics experiment can be a success if it fails (you learn something). A bridge - not so much.

BTW I had met (several times) and conversed with the one armed man Eddie Balchowsky. What a character. He lost his arm in Spain.

I met him through a waitress who worked at at the Quiet Knight, Marsha Fript. She was an old girlfriend of mine. He used to hang out at her diggs. A rat hole in Chicago.

He was generally a leftist (as were we all in those days) but he had a very sour view of all politics.

Just to give you some idea of Marsha's digs - she had a candle on her table (lit) that we all sat around and the cockroaches were marching across the table and up and down the candle. A most amazing sight. Eddie sat across from me. And roared away.

Here is a bit on Eddie:

Another interesting note. Sandy (now my mate) and Marsha were good friends. We used to hang out with Marsha a lot when we lived in Chicago. I'll never forget the New Years eve party we spent with her and some friends. Marsha was out selling flowers that day and when she came to the party she smelled of flowers. Lovely.

When Marsha got married we kind of fell away from each other. Her husband was the jealous type and couldn't stand seeing one of her old boyfriends around.
